Your Lovely Hosts
Welcome to Spooky Librarians, the virtual home of two slightly demented Capricorn librarians. Within this site, you'll find Bunny and Jeanne's individual and combined rantings, recommendations, remembrances, and other things that begin with the letter R. Join us, won't you? Scroll down for information about the different parts of the site.

Spooky Jeanne for America's Libraries....
Jeanne says:

I love words and love trivia, so it figures that I would end up a librarian. During the day, I struggle with the intricacies of copyright and distribution lists; at night, I read - books, magazines, online journals, bulletin boards, CD liner notes, etc. - and dream of writing spookily oriented coffee table books.

Hobbies:  reading, photography, dancing, recorder music, genealogy, searching yard sales and antique stores for daguerreotypes and early photographs

Favorite Audio: Nick Cave, They Might Be Giants, the Pogues, Dead Can Dance, Assemblage 23, Anything Box, '80s synthpop, swirlygoth

Favorite Video: MST3K, Young Sherlock Holmes, all things Muppet, Star Wars, offbeat documentaries

One day hopes to: see the Bone Chapel in Prague, live near the ocean, learn what it takes to be a pet psychic or play tenor recorder for an Elizabethan chamber music group

Spooky Bunny pondering the hidden world of the microbe
Bunny says:

My name is Bunny, a nickname given to me by friends many moons ago.
I'll assume you're a friend...so Bunny will do just fine.
I am a librarian by day and a struggling guerilla artist by night. I am currently the Director of Libraries for the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science *insert sinister laughter here* and obtained my MLS from the prestigious University of Kentucky

I am a B-Movie fanatic, collecting and absorbing as many of these classic gems as possible. My favorites are: William Castle's "Mr. Sardonicus", Hammer Film's "Frankenstein & the Monster From Hell", the thinking man's sci-fi "It Conquered the World" and the George Romero classic "Dawn of the Dead" (which I shudder to refer to as just another B-movie).

When I'm not researching embalming techniques or cataloging books about the existential crisis humans undergo in the grief process I am immersed in one of the following interests:

Hobbies: videography, photography, classic video games, computers, scriptwriting, roleplaying, reading.

Favorite Authors: H.P. Lovecraft, Desmond Morris, David Gerlernter, Dr. Michio Kaku and Forrest J. Ackerman (Uncle Forry!)

Favorite Video: MST3K, Doctor Who, Classic 80s Cartoons, B-movies of all shapes, sizes and decades!

One day hopes to: Own a souped-up hearse, manage a traveling sideshow or finally get that tattoo of Ookla the Mok

Folderol
Look past the volleyball
Look past the squawking gull
Ignore the mountain of discarded folderol...
--They Might Be Giants

Folderol began in April 2000 and is one girl's view of what makes the web interesting. It's updated every day Monday through Friday, barring vacation and/or catastrophe. Each day has its own theme, as seen below:

Mondays: Music, Dance, Art & Literature
Tuesdays: Toys & Technology (pop culture and comp culture)
Wednesdays: Wanderings (physical and spiritual, travel and occult happenings)
Thursdays: Thrills of the Working World (libraries, archives, history and journalism)
Fridays: Free to anything  (send in your suggestions!)

Dead Log
A valiant attempt to catalog the passing of celebrities both famous and forgotten, the Dead Log is updated weekly with the latest personages who have crossed over and are now pestering John Edward. The Shroud keeps them immortal, or at least in a small image.

Heir of December Media
Heir of December Media is a collaborative union of professionals, amateurs and artists of all persuasions in a creative and supportive network. Working together, either on creating new works of art or by supporting others through free P.R., Heir of December Media will continue to grow as our members do. If you are interested in meeting other artists and collaborating on projects, please send us an email

life's not a paragraph
This is Jeanne's experiment with a journal. It's so experimental, in fact, that she has no idea how long it's going to last or how often it's going to be updated (ergo, subscribe to the notify list if you want to be, um, notified of anything). See what spooky librarians dream about at night. Electric sheep are not out of the question.

The Remembering Box
This is Bunny's experiment with capturing those fond memories, strange feelings and wicked-good ideas. We expect this to be a hodge-podge, a cornucopia, a pot-luck, crap-shoot and any other metaphoric phrases you can pull out of your high school vocabulary work book. Come by and explore a topic with me, hey, it sure beats working.

The Rogue's Gallery
Are you a spooky librarian?
* Is your very being/character deconstructing the librarian stereotype?
* Are you passionate about libraries without making them your entire existence?
* Would your colleagues describe you as  left of center? Slightly bent? A bit of a maverick?
* Do you prize your individuality in your less than conservative work attire?
* Do people gather around your cubicle/office/desk to gawk at your choice of decor?
* Are you a goth reference boi, punk-rock circulation grrl, an arty avant-garde cataloger or a unique breath of fresh air?

Send us a pic and your name/alias, job title and website address and we'll immortalize you in the "Rogues Gallery"!
