It's a wholpin! It's like a liger, but much bigger. And seafaring.

Today: links from others. Thanks, everyone!

From Holly: Cookie Monster is going vegetarian. This prompted the following discussion.
Me: "New characters such as talking aubergines and carrots will be introduced..." so they can be EATEN?!?!?
Holly: I also pondered the fact that since he is a cookie monster, shouldn't his metabolism be at the proper rate for surviving only on cookies?
(Someone really needs to do a paper on the metabolism of Muppets. That would rock.)

For more Muppet fun, check out one person's 25 favorite Sesame Street moments. Some of mine are on there. I would add the dancing sheep, though.

From Danny: Zoomquilt is...strange. And sort of evil. But in a good way.

From Glenna: the Planetary Society. Ooooh. Ahhhhh.

From Bill: the Death Clock, in a snazzy new updated version. If I stay optimistic, I will die on Sunday, May 12, 2075, at the ripe old age of 103! If I lose my optimism, I die Wednesday, March 30, 2050. Who knew that seeing the glass as half full could add 25 years to your life?

Have a spiffy weekend, everyone. See you Monday.

It's National Library Week. Hug a librarian! Take a librarian out to dinner! Donate some books to a library! Rejoice in the fact that the Salinas libraries aren't going to have to close after all!

This would be my dream library. If they were hiring. (They may be hiring, but I can't find any info about it anywhere. Pah.)

NASA features WorldWind, which lets you spy on any place, anywhere. Sort of. They also have a cool image of the shuttle getting ready to launch.

Urban Ruins. Pretend it's the postapocalyptic future. Then you can send an email to yourself in the future and creep your future self completely out.

Finally: text messages - the wave of the future? A stepping stone on the way to something bigger? A fad? Find out everything you ever wanted to know!

Tomorrow: links from others. See you then.

Image of the Day/Week/Whatever

Oh, for Christ's sake. We are SMRT here in Cncinnati.
(We lost the game, too.)

Today I am wondering why I'm not going to Glastonbury this summer. Have you seen the lineup? Have you heard about the "silent disco" that will take place after the noise curfew goes into effect? I think I could deal with the crowds. I think.

If you've always wanted to climb Mt. Everest but couldn't quite handle the altitude and the life-threatening danger, Disney World is creating its own version for armchair mountaineers.

If you'd like a reminder of a certain moment at a certain place, the Last Clock may offer you just that. Provided you were in a certain place at a certain moment, anyway. It's lovely art, regardless.

Delocator is a wonderful little site which gives you alternatives to Starbucks in any town you want. I put in my zipcode and found most of the indie coffeehouses in town. (You can add more to the database as well.)

H.P. Lovecraft called The Night Land "one of the most potent pieces of macabre imagination ever written." Somehow I've never heard of it till now.

And finally, if you're in withdrawal from the NCAA betting frenzy, why not start a new office pool, complete with brackets, for the new Pope? The chart is hilarious -- and perfect.

The Image of the Day will return when Blogger doesn't freak out at the sight of it!

Candy update: Hershey's cookies are surprisingly good. Especially the Peppermint Patty ones.

This just in from Danny! "Just got a link to an online rpg-like game where you're playing an aspiring popstar; might be fun." If you like your games a little more violent, there's also Nanaca Crash, where you crash into people with your bike and see how far they fly through the air (taking other people out along the way). Yes, really.

In a parallel universe, jewelry made from typewriters is normal, cardboard castles are all the rage, and surreal signs dominate the roads. (This would be my perfect world, I think.)

If it's Monday, it must be art, music and literature day.

Literature:

Art:

  • Cool artist of the week: Jason Bruges. Project Litmus looks amazing.
  • Pintoids combine Altoids tins with pinhole cameras to create "curiously strong images." Heh.

Music:

  • Radio David Byrne is not all David Byrne, all the time, but rather the music David Byrne thinks you need to hear. He also has a journal. How amazingly cool is this?
  • Sonos uses wireless technology to pump music into the speakers of your home, so you can listen to different songs in each room if you want. Again, how cool is that?

Incidentally, the comments are still all wonky. You can post a comment, but the number of comments feature doesn't always work.
