Friday, July 15, 2005So, to sum up the week... From Daniel: "Grandma loathes doctors. Grandma hates doctors almost as much as she hates not being able to finish Fatal Frame. This is her blog; don't miss the video of Grandma playing Prince of Persia." A roundup of great offerings from Alfred at Odd Books: Entertainment for All Occasions (we are SO using the "airplane game" at one of our parties in the near future), Einstein Doesn't Work Here Anymore (I should hope not; he's been dead a while) and Does the Earth Rotate? NO! which is pretty self-explanatory, even if the thought processes that contributed to the book aren't. For the athletic readers, check out the BBC's Tour de France map and summary. I had no idea they went through the town I lived in (Tours). For the artistic readers, check out Lomography, the art of shooting photos from the hip. I had a dream last night that I was doing this, and was irritated when I realized this morning that it wasn't true. For everyone on the interweb, check out a new concept: Don't Click. Can you resist? Have a great weekend, everyone! If you're near Cincinnati, check out the Vent Haven convention going on. See you Monday.

Hey, look! Librarians in
Glasses! We are too sexy for our shelves...

There's also Alternative Archaeology, which is not so much freaky as it is interesting, and there's also a whole section of H.P. Lovecraft-related toys at Entertainment Earth. The toys are only freaky if you're easily freaked by the concept of tentacle-faced gods taking over the earth and causing us to lose your minds. Um, that's not very reassuring, is it?
Tuesday, July 12, 2005I do get the idea of CrimethInc, though, and wish I could be at the convention this week. It's not even that far away from me. Random design fun: jewelry made from electronics! An electronic light shower! A decal to put on your laptop so that it looks like a turntable! And finally, a musical tribute to the power of Google. Good stuff there.
Monday, July 11, 2005Here's a way to make literature more entertaining: have it analyzed by naked girls in bed. Yes, really! This link is safe for work; their own website, linked from the article, may not be. How well do you know your Fantastic Four? I did surprisingly well, considering that my only real FF knowledge comes from watching the '60s cartoon version. The line between film and videogames is getting ever blurrier, according to this British Film Institute exhibit. Proof that there's a site for pretty much anything: Imps whispering in magicians' ears. You know, that kind of stuff happens all the time. (We have one of these posters, I think.) And finally, art via nature, even in Metropolis: urban roof gardens. (Warning: the site has music. It's nice soothing music, but still.) |
