Friday, September 03, 2004From both Chuck and the Inflated Graveworm (insert conspiracy theory here -- I've never seen them in the same place at the same time): currency stranger than a bag full of wooden nickels. From both Satori and Gene Henceforth (no conspiracy theory here -- I HAVE seen them in the same place at the same time): ET, phone Earth! From Glenna: * The Terror Trap! * Seven Paranormal Research! * Thanks for the Memories -- a must-see. * Eat M&Ms, advance breast cancer research. What's not to love? From Holly: Tricks of the Trade, for all sorts of trades. (This is by Defective Yeti, who has been recommended here before.) Our favorite excerpt: "And when doing botanical work in South America, steer clear of the monkeys: They will throw sticks at you with surprising accuracy." Have a great weekend, everyone, and be safe (especially to Mike, down in Florida). See you Tuesday!
It's Friday! And it's a long weekend! And people have sent in a million links. Thanks, everyone!
Thursday, September 02, 2004In other news...librarians, meet flash drives. Flash drives, librarians. Have at it. Also for the information professionals: wanna write? Here are some opportunities. For those of us who love the past: And We Danced takes you all the way back to the '70s(!), and all the dance music that came after. Yay! For more pop culture reminiscing, Nostalgia Central is the place to hang out. If you're looking for something a bit farther back in history, check out the world of literature in the 1800-1872 era, or explore the world of Edvard Munch's life and art. Tomorrow: links from others, and there's going to be lots of them. Tune in!
Wednesday, September 01, 2004Meanwhile, the alternative types are currently heading to the modern-day mecca that is Burning Man. I am kind of staggered that it costs $200 per person, though. That's not very socialist of them. It's Kids Week in London theatres. Free theatre! Go! Also, Simdi Now celebrates Turkish culture in Berlin (that is, the festival is in Berlin - I think all geographical aspects of Turkish culture are celebrated) and France has its annual Folkloriades, aka the Folklore and Wine Festival. (I'm envious of that, too. Not as much as the puppet festival, but still.) As for my city, we're having a ridiculously large fireworks festival on the river, as we do every year. Keep this in mind if you're trying to drive around here on Sunday!
Tuesday, August 31, 2004In rather unrelated news, why not join the Kingdom of Loathing? You might get a spiffy meat loaf helmet to wear! (Bunny, this group was made for you. Honest. Go look!) Also, we need more participants over at the Voteswing forum. Come and debate, argue, or spin off into vague unrelated tangents.
Monday, August 30, 2004Not even the World Air Guitar Championships are free of controversy this year! From the "what is art, anyway?" department: a janitor accidentally throws away an art exhibit, and some people consider banner ads a form of art. Finally, there's a helpful guide to the strangled language of book reviews. It's achingly beautiful! From Daniel: check out the 3D models and renderings of artist Ray Caesar. (Then read his bio.)
