It's the end of the year, and as we finish tallying up the advent calendar competition results, here are some links to get you through the day...

The 2007 list of America's Most Literate Cities is out. Cincinnati just missed the top 10. (I never think of this city as particularly literate, but maybe I should change that way of thinking.)

It's not too late to make a disco ball for tonight, especially if you have a bunch of spare CDs lying about!

The U.S. Postal Service announced its upcoming stamps for 2008, and one features Bette Davis. Doesn't it look as if a cigarette has been Photoshopped out of her hand?

If Google Earth had been around in Biblical times, it would have seen some pretty odd occurrences. (Let's leave out the problems of satellites and internet access in Biblical times for the moment. Suspend your disbelief and read along!)

For people stuck at work, looking for some time wasters: you can take this TV theme show quiz, or you can immerse yourself in the amazing world of LEGO Digital Designer.

Finally, how about changing your desktop wallpaper for the new year? I'm thinking about the Tree of Books, or maybe the Patek Philippe Watch, but there are oodles of options.

Have a safe and happy holiday, everyone! We'll be back soon!

Blogger Brendan: In the Literate Cities rankings, I did notice that Cincinnati comes in 5th in one category you might care about.

Regarding the disco ball, I'm afraid I must disagree: it is a little late. Where was this great idea when AOL was spamming the world with its discs?

Happy New Year to you, too!

Blogger Brendan: P.S. You're right about the Bette Davis stamp. In fact, looking at that picture with your observation already in mind, it looks like an embarrassingly clumsy denial of reality.

I would have added a letter (snail-mail type) between her fingers.
